The first Finnish settlers came to Paltamo in 1552
when the Swedish King

Kivesvaara
hill (295 m above sea level) is one of the highest places in Paltamo.
There used
to be a ski resort decade ago. Nowadays we can only enjoy these fine sceneries
up on the high hill.

especially among women.

Armas Einar Lönnbohm was born in Paltamo in 1878. He
was a
great Finnish poet and novelist, inspired by Finnish nature and cultural
inheritance.
His major
work Helkavirsiä "Whit songs", (1903-1916), was based on the
Kalevala.

of Eino Leino can be found from the hearth of Paltamo center.
