APRIL

 

1084. Radio 700, Kall-Krekel 6005 colourful QSL-card in 2 months.

This German station is operating with 1 kW transmitter located in Kall-Krekel. Radio 700 has webpages at www.radio700.de.

 

1083. WMKI Boston MA 1260 short email for follow-up report. Radio Disney was heard in December 2007 in Kivesvaara hill.

 

MARCH

 

1082. WHKZ Warren OH 1440 nice letter 6 weeks from Director of Engineering. WHKZ was previously known as WRRO and WHHH before that. Many programs on WHKZ are simulcast with WHKW 1220 kHz in Cleveland. However, there is a local studio in Warren. The night pattern is a butterfly wing shape with major lobes going NE and SE from the Antenna system.

1078. VOCM St. John’s NL 590 emails for three VOCM-stations from Program Director. He writes:

We find your reports to be accurate, and can confirm your successful reception of these stations. Please note that we do not mail confirmation unless the sender includes a self-addressed envelope with a stamp of sufficient postage to mail same from Canada. CASH is not acceptable, and will not be returned, and no confirmation report will be sent. The preferred method of confirmation is via email. You may attach an MP3 audio file of your reception if you wish, but we will not accept a link to any other site that would contain said audio file, due to the danger of viruses.”

 

FEBRUARY

 

1077. AIR Najibabad 954 email from Programme Head in 2 weeks. Najibabad is a small town in North India. It is in Uttar Pradesh state of India and is about 25 km away from other Indian state Uttarkhand. The transmitter was closed down at 23.10 Indian Standard time, that is 1740 UTC. AIR Najibabad was my 31st AIR station.

 

1076. DZEC Eagle Broadcasting Corporation, Quezon City 1062 friendly email with staff picture in just 1 week. DZEC 1062 kHz has relay stations DZEC Dagupan in Northern part of Luzon, DZEC in Southern part of Luzon, DZEC Cebu in Visayas and DZEC Davao in Mindanao. It was indeed a great pleasure to listen to DZEC although the signal was not so strong here in Finland.

 

1075. CJYQ St.John’s NL 930 nice and fast email for follow-up report from Music Director. CJYQ has been one of the most common North American AM stations at my listening location. If radio conditions are well enough for Trans-Atlantic connections, Radio Newfoundland 930 kHz is among the first radio stations. Newfoundland stations can be normally heard just after 2200 GMT, that’s around midnight in Finland.

 

1074. WMSW Hatillo PR 1120 email from La Secretaria de la emisora in 1 week. Radio Once has nice webpages at radionce.com.

 

1073. KDHL Faribault MN 920 “It sounds like you found us” -email from the station. Manitoba station does interference KDHL during nighttime when KDHL has night antenna pattern. KDHL was heard during my DX-pedition in Muhos with Simo S. Soininen on 2nd February 2008. The TA-conditions were favourable only during the first two days of our pedition. Most of the NA stations we heard were from Newfoundland and Quebec. 

 

JANUARY

 

1072. CIGM Sudbury ON 790 nice email. CIGM will move to FM 93,5 and change the format likely to Top 40 (and a good chance they will change the call-letters). Target date is 1st July 2009. So, you better be hurry if you want CIGM AM QSL.

 

1071. KVNS Brownsville TX 1700 finally two QSL-cards from Weslaco. KVNS operates with a power of 8.8 kW during the day and just 880 watts at night. The antenna is non-directional. I heard this station two years ago in January 2006 in Muhos.

 

1070. KVAN Burbank WA 1560 email for follow-up report. Station was heard in Spanish in Muhos on 8th Nov 2007. Thank you JPR for the excellent QTH and SSS for the v/s tip.

DECEMBER

 

1069. JOER Hiroshima 1350 beautiful QSL-card with program schedule in Japanese after follow-up and cassette recording.

JOER was heard during my DX-pedition in Muhos in November 2007.

 

AUGUST

 

1068. CJRS Montréal, Quebec 1650 email for follow-up report in just 30 minutes.

CJRS Radio Shalom was heard in Muhos in November 2007. CJRS was my 1050th verified radio station (without FM).

 

MAY

 

1067. Radio Cristal del Uruguay, Las Piedras 1470 English language QSL-card from Laura. Thank you!

 

APRIL

 

1066. BBC Guernsey 1116 QSL-card, two stickers, funny book-mark etc. with “apologies for the delay” from Channel Islands

It took 1 year and 3 months. BBC local stations still do reply to reception reports.

BBC Guernsey was heard in a pedition in Muhos in January 2007.

 

MARCH

 

1065. Marfil Estéreo, Pto Lleras 5910 QSL-card and recording for follow-up report in 2½ months

 

QSL-cards from YLE Tekniikka

YLE Pori 963 last transmission 31st Dec 2006 and

YLE Helsinki 558 last transmission 31st Dec 2007

 

YLE Radio Finland left mediumwave band on 31st December 2007. There are no more LW, MW or SW broadcasts from YLE.

YLE has now printed a special QSL-card for the last transmission on 558 kHz.

1064. TWR Benin 1566 email-QSL from DX-Secretary

 

1063. WJR Detroit MI 760 QSL-card for follow-up report from Operations Manager.

It is really great that some US stations do reply with traditional QSL-card by snailmail.

WJR was heard for a long period during my DX pedition in Muhos last November.

 

FEBRUARY

 

1062. WHK Cleveland OH 1420 nice letter and two pictures from WHK Director of Engineering in 3 months.

WHK was the first broadcast station on the air in Ohio in the mid 1920’s.

The transmitter location Seven Hills in Cleveland is the same even today.

 

JANUARY

 

1061. KFBK Sacramento CA 1530 letter, two refrigerator magnets and “NewsTalk 1530 KFBK” balloon.

The verie signer was the Staff Engineer.

 

1060. KYKN Keizer OR 1430 two emails for follow-up report.

KYKN was my first Oregon station. Now I have scored 38 US states. I heard KYKN in a pedition in Muhos in November.

 

1059. WFNN Erie PA 1330 email with station photos for follow-up report 2 days.

WFNN is “Fox Sports Radio AM 13-30 the Fan”.

 

1058. CFRW Winnipeg MB 1290 email for follow-up report from Assistant Program Manager.

CFRW was my 1250th point in the FDXA Rank

 

1057. XEPE “San Diego 17-hundred” Tecate 1700 email 1 day for follow-up report from CE.

XEPE operates with 10 kW non-directional antenna nighhtime.

The studios are in the USA but the transmitter is located near Tijuana.

 

A nice snailmail letter from Voice of Nevis 895.

VON replied to me by email already in December 2007.

V/s welcomed me to travel to St. Kitts and Nevis.

 

1056. CFRA Ottawa ON 580 letter 6 weeks from Chief Engineer.

CFRA is part of Chum Radio Ottawa and operates with the power of 50.000 watts.

Chum Radio Ottawa has the stations CFRA-580, CKKL-FM 93.9, CFGO “Team 1200” and CJMJ “Magic 100”.

 

1055. WHBC Canton OH 1480 email with attached transmitter photos for follow-up from Director of Engineering.

According to the CE WHBC has received a small number of reception reports from Finland, Sweden and Norway this winter.

 

1054. WLQV Detroit MI 1500 email for follow-up from Sales Manager.

V/s was amazed that WLQV can be heard in Finland.

 

1053. WLIB New York NY 1190 email for follow-up report.

WLIB was my 200th verified radio station from North America. All stations are heard below the Arctic Circle.

The staff of WLIB has been very busy lately because of their 1 year anniversary.
