TIME TO CELEBRATE - 1000 VERIFIED RADIO STATIONS

EARLIER QSLs of mine:

QSLs 2008

QSLs 2005 - 2007

The station number in my QSL-collection (including FM-stations) is presented first.

All stations are heard in the original way of DX’ing BELOW ARCTIC CIRCLE and WITHOUT SDR.

My goal is 200 DX-countries without peditions to Lapland and without SDR.

Kaikki asemat on kuultu napapiirin eteläpuolella ja perinteisin menetelmin ilman SDR-kuuntelua!

QSLs 2010

FEBRUARY

1112. KBUL Billings MT 970 email with mp3 in just 6 days. Some listeners have even heard the special announcement “Newsradio 9-70 Big in Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden” live in the airwaves! KBUL has received several other requests from Finland this year.

1111. CFFB Iqaluit, Nunavut 1230 friendly letter in 2 months. CFFB was broadcasting CBC North with local weather forecast when we heard the station in Muhos (near Oulu) last December. The transmitter power is just 1 kW. CFFB was the first North American AM station we heard every evening after 18.00 UTC in Muhos. This station was the first station I have ever heard from Nunavut.

1110. KNX Los Angeles CA 1070 two emails 1 month. Picking up US west coast stations are pretty tough below the Arctic Circle. Newsradio KNX was actually my 3rd AM station from California.

1109. ZNS1 Broadcasting Corporation of the Bahamas, Nassau 1540 short email with station logo in 1 month.

Bahamas was my country number 193. All countries are being heard below the Arctic Circle and without SDR.

1108. Radio Symban, Sydney NSW 2368.5 a very nice letter, two post cards, picture and CD full of Greek music in one month. Radio Symban is using only 500 watts transmitter. I heard this Greek Australian station in December in Muhos. It is always a great pleasure to receive snailmail packages like this one. Thank you very much Tom!

- Yoido Full Gospel 6715 deleted from the FDXA-rank on 9th Feb 2010 as an unlicensed station. It makes minus one station.

1108. KLO Ogden UT 1430 a very kind personal email in 2 weeks from Salt Lake City.

KLO was my 1300th FDXA (Finnish DX-Association) rank point.

1107. CBY Corner Brook NL 990 QSL-card 1 month from CBC Transmission & Distribution Department in St.John’s. I also got QSL-card from CBT 540 and CBN 640. However, CBN does not give me a new station point in the FDXA rank because I already have CBC/CKZN St.John’s NL 6160 back in the 1980’s. CBN St.John’s started broadcasting on November 14th 1932. At that time the station was known as VONF. Today CBC Newfoundland has 9 AM transmitters bringing the coverage of about 90 % of NL and Labrador.

1106. CBT Grand Falls NL 540 QSL-card 1 month from Transmission & Distribution Department in St.John’s. CBT

1105. KQAQ Austin MN 970 letter, coverage map and program information 1 month from Station Manager. KQAQ “Classic Country 970” has received reception reports also from Norway and Italy. This nice Country music station has three state coverage: Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.

1096. KOKC Oklahoma City OK 1520 two friendly emails with QSL in a few hours from Oklahoma. It is hard to catch KOKC in Finland because the dominant station WWKB Buffalo NY is directional to the east while KOKC is directional to the west. They do this to avoid interference in the middle part of the United States. Oklahoma was my 38th US state from the AM band.

1095. WARV Warwick RI 1590 a very friendly letter, sticker an schedule from Vice President of Blount Communications Group. Christian teaching and talk station WARV is using slogan “Life Changing Radio” and broadcasts with 5000 watts from Rhode Island. Rhode Island – “The Ocean State” is the smallest state in the USA. This was my first QSL from Rhode Island and AM state no.37 (US state no.41 including US SW-stations) in my QSL-collection.

1094. CHLW St.Paul AB 1310 friendly email in couple of hours from Alberta. This Cat Country station has only 5 people: a manager, morning show host/program director, a news and sports director, a sales representative and an administrative person.

1093. KJR Seattle WA 950 “confirmed” email in just 30 minutes. KJR is a Fox Sports Radio in Seattle.

1092. KVGB Great Bend KS 1590 email. V/s writes: “We are a 5 KW station with a northwest antenna orientation during night time hours. As a result of this we receive 3 or 4 reception reports every winter from Finland and Sweden. During daytime hours we have an omni-directional signal pattern.” KVGB was my first station from Kansas.
